Lumenshard - PA-0.1.0

From the team

This patch marks an exciting step forward as we prepare for the pre-alpha launch, introducing fully playable versions of Dreamfarers and Rite of Ascension. Our focus has been on polishing core gameplay, integrating essential systems, and adding depth to the experience. You'll find significant updates across both game modes, from procedural generation enhancements in Dreamfarers to new stats and leaderboards for Rite of Ascension.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has provided feedback during internal testing—your reports, videos, and suggestions have been instrumental in identifying bugs and fine-tuning gameplay. As always, we'll be closely monitoring feedback to address balance, improve quality of life, and ensure that the experience continues to improve every patch.

Welcome to the Meridian Fair, the debut point of interest and central hub of the Lumenshard MC universe. It's here where all points in the world connect together and where you'll always find something new to do. Today, the doors are open to the Dreamfarers grand tent, and the Rite of Ascension arena.

In the future additional gamemodes will make their debut this humble little carnival, and the fountain right outside will reveal it's true secrets to the player and be the formal gateway to the broader LMC overworld for players to

Party up and jump in

When you join LMC for the first time, make sure to bring a friend and the run the command /party, this will open a party management UI you can use to invite, promote, or kick players in your party. Once your set-up simply join any gamemode and your party will be pulled in with you.

Equipment

We’ve made significant progress on equipment and combat systems, with our first full pass on 10 tiers of armors and equipment nearing completion. After chipping away at models and sprites over the past year, we now have over 500+ unique items ready for the combat systems alone. These items are designed to add depth, variety, and plenty of surprises for players to discover.

Weapon Proficiencies and Types

Our arsenal is growing, with a diverse range of weapons for players to master. Here's a quick overview of the three main weapon categories currently in development:

  1. Melee Weapons
Expect a classic medieval fantasy arsenal, including swords, axes, maces, daggers, spears, and even great weapons. Each weapon type offers its own playstyle and strategic advantages.
  2. Ranged Weapons
We’re stepping outside the norm with seven unique ranged weapon types, ranging from traditional bows and arrows to arcane sniper rifles and battery-powered arcane cannons. Variety is key, keeping both players and their foes on their toes.
  3. Arcane Weapons
Magic is central to Lumenshard’s world, and we’re crafting unique, hard-magic systems to explore. While you can start with the classic magical staff, we’re working on expanding the arsenal to include:
    • Focus Magic
    • Resonance Magic (instruments)
    • Enigma Magic (tomes and runic tools).

Introducing: Batteries

A standout addition to Lumenshard is the Battery System—a novel mechanic that’s simple to use yet adds immense depth to combat across all game modes. Batteries are equippable items that drain over time with use, imbuing weapons with elemental bonuses and modifiers.

For example, equipping a battery might turn a standard sword swing into a searing slice of molten iron, complete with all the elemental effects you’d expect. With different shapes, sizes, and effects to discover, Batteries promise to shake up the way players approach combat and strategy.

And that’s just the start! We’re keeping this update brief to avoid spoiling too much, but rest assured, there’s a lot more to come. Keep exploring, experimenting, and discovering—we can’t wait to see how you wield these tools in your adventures!

Dreamfarers

Dreamfarers experience is shaping up to be an intricate and replayable adventure for players to explore and master. Here's a breakdown of the features and mechanics currently available for testing:

The Interloper: Your Personal Player Airship

The Interloper is the central hub for all your Dreamfarers activities, offering various tools and systems to prepare for your next expedition. Here's what's functional right now:

  • The Navigation Table
Players can now preview available Figments, select which one to tackle, and apply Innervation Levels (prestige bonuses unlocked by completing a Figment from start to finish).
  • The Ambry
A dynamic storage system where players can store their collected Artifacts and Relics for safekeeping and future runs.
  • The Reliquary
A drop box system that lets players send gear, extra lives, and other resources into their next expedition.
  • The Reverie Drive
This control center allows players to apply Artifacts to manipulate the stability and procedural generation of Figments, creating unique gameplay experiences tailored to their strategy.

Makrival’s Last Gala

The first fully implemented Figment is Makrival’s Last Gala, an entirely procedurally generated dungeon that offers something new every time you play.

  • Dungeon Layout: Four diverse floors, including the Manor Gardens and the Rooftops, each filled with challenges and secrets.
  • Enemies & Bosses: Over 20 unique mobs and 3 challenging bosses are currently active, giving players plenty to fight and learn.

Items & Resources

Dreamfarers introduces several unique in-game currencies and mechanics that shape the player experience:

  • Somnus Dust
The run-specific currency players can collect from defeated enemies or lootable piles. Use it in Figment shops to acquire items, potions, or bonuses during your current run.
  • Somnus Stones
A permanent currency players can use aboard the Interloper to unlock Artifacts, Relics, and Life Orbs for future runs.
  • Flux
A rare and valuable resource dropped by high-level enemies, used to Innervate and enhance Figments.
  • Figment Stability
A dynamic timer now appears on the HUD, counting up as you progress through a Figment. As time passes, the Figment grows more unstable and enemies increase in strength. While still in testing, this mechanic adds tension and will evolve to play a key role in shaping gameplay in future updates.

Passives, Abilities, and Proficiencies

To keep every Dreamfarers run feeling fresh and unique, players now gain access to a robust progression system:

  • As you level up during a run, you’ll periodically select from a pool of over 100 Passives, Bonuses, and Active Skills.
  • These upgrades are permanent for the duration of the run and allow for deep customization, letting players experiment with a wide variety of builds each time they play.

The Dreamfarers content is already packed with features, but this is just the beginning. We’re excited for players to dive into the mechanics, explore the Figments, and give feedback as we refine and expand the experience.

Rite of Ascension

Rite of Ascension offers players a competitive PvP experience with unique heroes, strategic arenas, and robust systems to track progress. Here’s everything that’s ready for you to jump in and test:

The Heroes

Nine bespoke heroes are available, each with distinct personalities, fighting styles, and mechanics. Every hero comes equipped with six active abilities and unique passives, allowing for dynamic and varied playstyles. Whether you're drawn to Chalan's ingenuity, Yekon's ferocity, or Farah's precision, there's a hero for every kind of player.

  • Chalan Ayapey – A brilliant, if reckless, arcane inventor who bends the rules of magic to suit his unrelenting curiosity.
  • Solli Duranierac – A wandering balladeer whose voice and lute carry both enchanting melodies and devastating force.
  • Damuel Petroba – A seasoned tactician whose sharp mind and deadly skill in combat lead small forces to triumph against impossible odds.
  • Caerova – The Mentor of the Wilds, a mysterious figure who wields elemental power to protect and guide those lost in nature’s grasp.
  • Mokoyyed Brisseini – A battle-worn warrior whose unparalleled resilience and fury make him a force of destruction on the battlefield.
  • Yekon Kuzmadi – A fearless Vrovon banner-bearer who defies tradition and fights for his people’s survival through relentless determination.
  • Farah Louar – The Silver Seneschal, a graceful yet lethal protector of her desert homeland, balancing diplomacy and deadly precision.
  • Meri Caperkin – An eccentric and unorthodox physician who applies her theatrical flair and ruthless practicality to every challenge she faces.

Each hero brings their own unique toolkit and personality to the fight, ensuring battles are as varied as they are intense.

The Arenas

Rite of Ascension currently features five distinct arenas for players to battle in, with environments tailored to test your skills and strategies:

  • Dynamic Arenas: Two of these arenas include procedural generation for branching halls and rooms, ensuring no two matches feel exactly the same.
  • Post-Game Voting: Players can vote on the next map directly after a match, keeping squads together without the need to leave and rejoin. This system makes it easier to keep the action going seamlessly.

Stats and Leaderboards

Track your progress and prove your dominance:

  • Detailed Metrics: We’re keeping tabs on a couple of dozen key performance metrics, from kills to assists to objectives completed.
  • Top Performers in the Hub: The best of the best will see their names in lights—leaderboards displayed directly in the Meridian Fair hub showcase top wins and kills across all Rite of Ascension games.

Rite of Ascension combines fast-paced gameplay, strategic depth, and competitive community features to make every match memorable. With more features and content on the way, this is just the beginning of the journey.
